Episode Transcription
Well hello, everyone! I am so excited….even gleeful!
We’re finally launching the Words and Power podcast after having years of requests from aspiring leaders for something like this.
You and I are in for a lot of fun together!
I’m looking forward to sharing with you the inside scoop…… the tips, the strategies, the insights, and even the secrets about influence, persuasion, and presence that I’ve been collecting and teaching to C-suite leaders for decades.
And I can’t wait to see how this information helps you grow your own influence and your own power so that you can accomplish meaningful things and make a difference in your organization.
So, this short introductory episode is to give you a good sense as to what can you generally expect from episodes of this podcast.
- First, the episodes will be short and to the point. We are aiming for 15-20 minute segments that you can absorb during your commute, during your morning coffee, or while on your lunch break.
- I may not know you personally, but I DO know you are a busy person with a lot on their plate. I want to be respectful of your time, because I know every minute counts.
- Secondly, most of our episodes will be what I like to think of as high-impact content. What do I mean by that? We are aiming for content that is practical, highly effective, and easy-to-execute.
- In other words, you’ll hear a lot of episodes where I’ll be saying something like: “Here are 3 easy things to do if you want this particular result.”
- Sure, sometimes we could get very conceptual or philosophical about influence, persuasion and presence. It’s a fascinating topic, with some fascinating questions to explore.
- But what would make me even happier than that? I would love for you to hear a simple, easy-to-execute tip on this podcast, try it out for yourself the following week, and then notice the difference that makes in your work life.
- I would love to see you get results and start gaining your own influence and power…… and the only way for you to do that is to move into action. So it’s my job on this podcast to make things as easy as possible for you so that you start seeing some real rewards.
- And finally, having said all that, occasionally there WILL be an episode where we take a pause to look at the big picture.
- Tips and strategies can be powerful tools in learning how to win support for your ideas.
- But your MINDSET—how you’re thinking about where you’re going and why—can be just as important. It can take you from the level of merely being competent to being masterful.
- You know that already from seeing the world of high-performance athletes. Building your physical abilities are a must. But if you don’t also work on developing a powerful mindset, you may never get to be world-class at your game.
- If I had to make a bet, I think there are quite a few of you who have the potential to be world-class in your ability to get your ideas heard and become reality……..even if that isn’t happening for you now.
- So taking an occasional episode to reflect on the question: “Where are we going and why?” is an important investment in tapping into your full potential as a leader.
I’m pointing this out now because our other two introductory episodes are going to take a deep dive into the mindsets around the two concepts in the title of this podcast…..the concept of “words” and the concept of “power”.
Both of these are pretty foundational things to understand if you want to become better at influence, persuasion, and presence.
That’s why we’re going to have an introductory episode on each of these concepts both before moving into some future episodes on cool tips and techniques.
So what if you’re impatient and want to get to the cool stuff right away? Well, then you sound a lot like me!Feel free to go skip ahead and do that---I’ll see you in those future episodes. Just do consider coming back and listening to these initial episodes later when you have the time. There might be some thought-provoking observations there that can accelerate your ability to grow your own influence and power.
Alright my friends, you now have a sense of what you can expect in the Words and Power podcast.
Time to start talking about these topics themselves, and making sure you have all the tools and skills you need to get your voice and your ideas heard in your organization! This is Kathy Dockry, and I’ll see you next time.
